It will be a disaster if a local host controller were to be damaged due to a surge from one of the many remote devices in a lightning prone area. To protect the host controller, RDC’s lightning protection units will divert away all large, harmful surges back to the earth. Persistent surges will cause the lightning production unit to “open circuit” until the surges subside.
